The policy of high value and low volume tourism will continue to protect and preserve our rich natural and cultural heritage even as it leads to an equitable socio-economic development. The policy resonates with the objectives of sustainable tourism and enhances the global respect for a small country that dares to be different, placing human contentment above material development. For the above reasons, all tourists are required to make their travel arrangements for both tours & treks through an authorized tour operator on a pre-planned, pre-paid and guided package. Independent travel is not permitted in Bhutan! The tour operator is responsible for all land arrangements during your stay in Bhutan including in-country travel/road permits, temple permits and special permits.
